August Korb

August Korb is a 2023 University of Pittsburgh graduate who received a bachelor's degree in Sociology with a minor in Studio Arts. They were born and raised in Pittsburgh, PA, and still reside in Oakland. They had the opportunity to travel to Rock River, Wyoming with the Pitt Studio Arts department in the summer of 2022 and this experience deeply impacted them as an artist, a thinker, and a nature lover. Art is an integral part of understanding history. Artistic expressions are imprints of the ways in which history impacted the people who lived through it. They believe that channeling human expression through artistic practice and creative pursuits is a path that leads to a richer understanding of one’s self and creates deeper connections between people. They have received multiple grants from the university to further their artistic research in embodied memory and emotional expression.
August has always had a deep interest in learning about the structures of societies and cultures of places both local and distant. They believe understanding the political and social structures under which people operate is essential to understanding individuals, fostering empathy between them, and improving living conditions. They currently work as a standardized patient at the university’s medical school. August is preparing to enter into a Phd program for Public Health in order to take their studies to the next level. They have a particular interest in improving the organization of hospitals and a passion for fighting for universal healthcare.  They are very excited to join the SAYAC as a Co-recruitment chair!
