Journaling and Reflections Abroad

No, this isn’t a ‘Dear Diary” journal – this is your space to decompress and reflect on your experiences abroad. Keeping a private journal of experiences that call your attention or that get you closer to meeting your goals (or those that pull you further away) is so important in being able to succinctly describe your experience in the future.

The journal that you keep while abroad should be different than a blog that you use to keep in touch with your family and friends back home (see here). When you keep a public account of what is happening, of course you are going to curate experience – the best food that you’ve eaten, great interactions you’ve had with the local community, and funny things that happen while you are out at night. You probably won’t want the things that you are struggling with to be public, so give yourself a separate space to work through those issues.
