The Study Abroad Contract is the legally binding document that will guide and inform University of Pittsburgh students of certain required policies and procedures regarding study abroad. It is mandatory to complete the
Study Abroad Contract prior to your departure.

Once you have been accepted to a study abroad program,
please call 412-648-7413 or email abroad@pitt.edu to sign up for a Contract Meeting.

What the Contract does -

  • Outlines behavioral, academic, financial and medical responsibilities for Pitt students studying abroad
  • Approves the proposed study abroad program
  • Approves courses and determines where each course will fit in toward the student's degree (i.e. if the classes count as major requirements, minor, certificate, or elective)
  • Officially registers the student for study abroad credit
  • Adjusts the Pitt tuition bill, or waives it if the student is participating in a non-Pitt program (students whose parents are employeed by UPMC or Pitt must check with their respective HR departments to determine their eligibility).
  • Alerts the Financial Aid Office of your intentions and figures how your current aid will work toward your study abroad program

Please also visit the Financial Aid Office for the time you are abroad: http://www.bc.pitt.edu/students/

How to get the Contract -

The Study Abroad Contract can only be given out after you have been accepted to your study abroad program. Once you receive your acceptance letter, contact our office immediately (412-648-7413 or abroad@pitt.edu) to schedule a Contract Meeting. ENG and CBA students must contact their respective Study Abroad Offices to schedule a Contract Meeting.

You will need to bring a photocopy of your acceptance letter to the meeting in exchange for the contract. You will also be required to pay the Administrative Fee of $350.00 directly through Pitt Pay once you have been registered for your study abroad program. Please visit the Study Abroad Fee Page for further details on the Fee.

Please note: You will not be given a Study Abroad Contract without handing in the photocopy of your acceptance letter.

Once you receive the Contract, you will need to obtain several signatures - some of which require appointments. This will all be explained during your contract meeting.

Health, Safety and Security

An integral part of the Study Abroad Process, the Health, Safety and Security portion of the Contract Meeting outlines the risks of international travel and ways to successfully avoid those risks .
