Program will receive $4000.00 to help defray the cost of the program.
Program Schedule:
THE ACADEMIC PROGRAM
The academic program was developed by Associate Professor Wenfang Tang in Political Science at the University of Pittsburgh. Dr. Tang is a native of China and has extensive experience in leading study tours to China. Students participating in the four-week summer 2008 program are enrolled for 6 political science credits in the following course:
PS 1336: Contemporary Chinese Politics, and Society, and Economics
The 2008 program will focus on Chinese politics, society, foreign policy, ethnic relations and China's relations with Mongolia. This will include Chinese language lessons, in-class lectures and field trips in and around the area. The group will tour the rural areas in northern China and Inner Mongolia, visiting families, schools, ethnic minority villages, markets and so on. In the last ten days, the group will cross the border and visit Mongolian villages before arriving in Ulaanbaatar, the capital city of Mongolia, where the students will have Mongolian language lessons and lectures on Mongolian history, politics, economy and Mongolia-China relations.
There is no language requirement. Both undergraduate and graduate students are welcome and encouraged to apply.
Please check back in the coming months for a full itinerary!
