Making It Happen: Study Abroad for Students With Disabilities

Updates Coming Soon!!!

The Study Abroad Office was graciously awarded a grant from the IFSA Foundation to produce a documentary on the study abroad experience for students with disabilities. This documentary, which will be filmed over the forthcoming year, will showcase past students with disabilities who have studied abroad as well as some of the possible locations and programs on which a student with a disability could successfully participate. Some of our Affiliates, such as ISA and CEA have chosen to financially support this endeavor. It is our goal that this documentary will serve as a recruiting tool for Study Abroad professionals and other universities.

The Study Abroad Office and it's intitiative to foster opportunities for students with disabilities has recently been showcased in the Pitt Chronicle. Check out the full length article below to read testimonials from students with disabilities and study abroad staff and learn more about the ongoing documentary project.

Studying Overseas Not a Foreign Concept for Students with Disabilities, Thanks to Pitt's Study Abroad Office.

Please check back in the coming months for updates regarding this exciting and necessary project.

The International Fair
The Bi-Annual International Fairs are the largest Study Abroad promotional events on campus. The International Fair during the fall semester always corresponds with International Week in the late September / early October. During the spring semester, the International Fair is generally held in late January or early February. Please visit our Calendar Pages to view the events for the coming months. Both International Fairs host over 70 organizations including study abroad program providers, representatives from universities around the world, student groups and vendors. Please visit the International Fair Page for more information and to learn how you can get involved.

The Pitt Around the Planet Photo Contest
Each Fall Semester, the Study Abroad Office runs its annual photo contest to showcase the travels and experiences of recent study abroad participants. The 2007 competition promises to be the largest ever, with photos from all over the world. Submitted photos will be displayed in the Kimbo Gallery in the William Pitt Union from September 24 - September 28, 2007.
All who view the photos in the Kimbo Gallery are encouraged to vote for their favorite photo. If you are interested in submitting photos for the contest, please visit the Photo Contest Page for rules, guidelines and to view past winners.

Publications and Outreach Efforts
This very popular guide was designed over the course of four years with the help of Study Abroad Office Peer Advisors and Staff. This is the second draft of what will be an ongoing outreach effort to African American students on Pitt's campus. This guide allows African American students the opportunity to see the fruitful adventures of their peers and hopefully encourage participation by African American students.

This Guidebook was a Region VIII Highlight at the National NAFSA Conference in Baltimore.

The Road Less Traveled

A collection of student travel writing, artwork and photography

Designed and compiled by Peer Advisors at the Study Abroad Office,
The Road Less Traveled gives returned study abroad participants the opportunity to showcase their creative endeavors from their time overseas. Our Peer Advisors and Staff believe that such creative outlets are an important part of the reentry process and can help returned study abroad participants to share their wonderful experiences with each other.
