UPB International News and Announcements

  • The annual Cultural Festival will be Saturday, February 25, 2012, in the Frame-Westerberg Commons Building, Pitt-Bradford. This annual celebration of foreign foods, ethnic costumes, native dances and international relations is a campus favorite. In 2008, China was the focus culture, in 2009 it was the Caribbean, in 2010 it was Ireland, and in 2011 was India. Interested in being involved in this international fair?   •  Annual Maya Archaeology Spring Break Trip took place March 5-12, 2011. We went to Calakmul, Chicanna, Becan, Dzibanche, Kohunlich and the Caribbean coast. This was not a University of Pittsburgh sponsored trip. As usual, anyone was welcome to join us: alumni, spouses, friends, as well as students.
  • Dr. Thomas' Annual European Cultures Trip was in May 2011.  In 2009, it was to Ireland and in 2010, it was to Budapest, Vienna, Prague, Munich, Berlin and other cities. In 2011, it will be Spain: Madrid, Toledo, Cordoba, Seville, Grenada and Barcelona. This is not a University of Pittsburgh sponsored trip. Contact Jessica South at  jessicadebra@gmail.com 
  • The annual cultural exchange trip to Japan with Yokohama College of Commerce will take place in May 2012.  For more information, see Kristin Asinger (kaa54@pitt.edu). There are several Japanese Studies Student Travel Assistant Awards given to help defray the cost of the two week trip to Yokohama, Tokyo, Kyoto and Kamakura. The application deadline for the May 2012 trip will be January 31, 2012 at 4pm.
  • SIEP Visit by Japanese Students August 2011.  Every year, about 10 Japanese students from Yokohama College of Commerce come to Pitt-Bradford for a Summer Intensive English Program for two weeks. If you would like to be involved, contact Kristin Asinger kaa54@pitt.edu
