International Studies Advisory Group

 The International Studies Advisory Group began in January 2008 with the following goals:

• Coordinate multicultural experiences for the campus, such as the Cultural Festival in March
• Help develop projects (research, curricular and extracurricular) that will enrich already established international curricula.
• Create and maintain an International Studies Web site.
• Advise about purchasing and utilizing equipment such as hand-held translators for Japanese, Arabic, Chinese, or many other languages.
• Create a standing Fulbright Selection Committee to interview and assist faculty and students seeking Fulbrights, and coordinating Fulbright Faculty Workshops on campus.
• Sponsor conferences, lectures, film festivals, and workshops on international studies or on imminent global issues and international trends.
• Consider and possibly annually select and sponsor a residential Visiting International Fellows program perhaps through Scholars-in-Crisis Program.
• Promote foreign language learning.
• Acquire feedback and facilitate cooperation between faculty about Study Abroad / International Experiences, through the International Studies Web site.
• Establish criteria for gauging "global competence" among our students.
• Develop ways to enhance the continued internationalization of our curriculum, including sending Pitt-Bradford students to study abroad at YCC.
• Liaison with Alumni Relations Office about foreign-placed alumni, alumni tours.
• Be an advisory source and clearing house for council and other entities about study abroad (for both faculty and students).
• Prepare a budget for Dr. Steve Hardin, vice president and dean of academic affairs, to enable the funding of these many projects.
• Request and manage an International Studies Fund, to enable faculty to take students abroad for academic courses/experiences.
• Join a number of International groups. We already belong to PaCIE, NCTA,CERIS

Membership

The International Studies Advisory Group will be chaired by the Director of International Studies, who is appointed by the Academic Dean. Membership in the Advisory Group is open to anyone with an interest in international studies, especially foreign language teachers, faculty who regularly take students abroad or who regularly incorporate international and multicultural perspectives in their research and pedagogy, students  (the president of Chispa International Club for example), staff  (especially those who interact with foreign students/faculty at Pitt-Bradford), and any other member of the Pitt-Bradford community of learners.
